Photo Essay Night

Members are invited to submit a digital essay to show the members.  Here are the particulars:

From Wikipedia:  A photo essay (or “photographic essay”) is a set or series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke a series of emotions in the viewer. A photo essay will often show pictures in deep emotional stages. Photo essays range from purely photographic works to photographs with captions or small notes to full text essays with a few or many accompanying photographs. Photo essays can be sequential in nature, intended to be viewed in a particular order, or they may consist of non-ordered photographs which may be viewed all at once or in an order chosen by the viewer.

Your Digital Photo Essay is limited to 5 minutes in length per entry.  Sound may include your own commentary, taped music, or sound effects.

If you are creating a digital slide show, you must provide a means to play the slide show.  The Club will provide a digital projector and can provide a laptop with Powerpoint and Open Office as a slide show applications.  You can save your slide show to a thumb drive and that can play your show to the Club provided laptop.  Slide shows created in other applications must be brought in by the submitter on their own laptops.

*** Open Office is a free application that can be used to create slide shows.  It looks a great deal like PowerPoint.  You can add music, timing, and effects to your slide show using this application.  You can download Open Office by visiting http://www.openoffice.org.  There are specific applications for sale that are made to create slide shows easily by various companies if you do a search for them in Yahoo or Google.

For any questions or comments you may have on our slide essay event, please contact David Henkel.

After we view the Photo Essays, we will conclude with the Club Business Meeting.

Club Business Meeting

Club President Mike Harris emailed all members a set of revised by-laws on May 2nd. He received some very helpful suggestions and has incorporated them into that revised by-laws.  One of the primary changes to the by-laws is that the EC will elect the officers. To put our practice in written form, Mike added that the meetings of the EC should be open to all members and that the EC would communicate important decisions. There were inconsistencies referring to the pre Nominating Committee days. Another amendment to the by-laws is a change in member notifications of Club events (from 30 days) this to 15 days.
We will vote on the by=laws at the annual business meeting on May 20 as well as look over the year’s successes and work heading into next season.
