Our next meeting is on Wednesday, May 6th  and it is our Photo of the Year competition.

The Photo of the Year is the final chapter in this season’s competitions.  Members were asked to select up to two of their images that have been entered through this year’s competition season to be entered for a chance to be selected as the Black & White Print, Color Print or Digital Projected Image Photo of the Year.

Our three judges will certainly have their hands full with the selection of images, culling them down to a single representative in each category.

Our judges for this evening are:

She has lectured on photography for many organizations, including the Whitney Museum, the Bruce Museum, the Greenwich Arts Council, the Greenwich Library, the Stamford Art Association, and the Stamford Photography Club (formerly PCLFC), among others.

JAY WILSON

Jay has been a photographer ever since his grade school work with the truly awful little Kodak Disc camera.  He was nonetheless inspired and his passion has evolved over the decades.

After moving to NYC in 1996 he began to compose images of Gotham, often working to contrast the old and the new, the historic and the modern, the classic and the sleek shapes that rise above us. He later moved to Cos Cob and had two children, leading to a new emphasis in portrait photography – especially babies and children.

Jay continues to do commercial work along with his fine art and NYC perspectives.  He has exhibited extensively, most recently at Google’s NYC headquarters, and his work has been featured in many publications, including Popular Photography.

RON LAKE

Ron holds an M.F.A. in Fine Art Photography from Pratt Institute and has been involved in this medium for over 30 years. He is both an instructor of photography and a life long student of the art form. He also teaches and participates in International workshops. His photographs are presently showcased in numerous galleries and private collections.

His website bio says: “ I am always looking for the cutting edge in technique and technology so no small surprise that during the summer of 2000 while in Provence I found my next new direction. I was introduced to the Iris printing process by the legendary Elizabeth Opalenik. She was doing a workshop that included Infrared (my first real love) and manipulated Polaroids. The workshop was great as Elizabeth’s always are, but it was the enlarged prints from those minute SX-70s that truly changed my world. The real connection for me became Drum scans + Hasselblad 2¼ film = Big Iris Prints. Since that time, I have been hard at work creating my European portfolio with new editions each year. With this work I combine my passion for the old world landscape, my love of travel, golden-hour light and a digital printing process to make large photographs. All of my portfolios, past and present, showcase innovation but not before the hands of the artist imbibe them with the spirit of being there.”

Accomplishments include receiving an award in Spectra 04, The National Triennial in Photography for his Tuscan image, Verso La Ca’Solare, and being accepted in national juried shows such as The National Prize Show, Photoworks 09 and The Art of the Northeast where his image from Provence, Abbaye de Senanque, was mentioned in The New York Times.  His Venetian Bridges Series was distributed nationally by Crate & Barrel.

Ron hails from Boston and currently lives in Westport.

Print submissions are accepted until 7:00 pm the evening of the competition. The meeting will begin at 7:15pm.
