Michael and Judy Steinhardt open their private gardens twice a year to the public as part of the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program — one day in the Spring and one day in the Fall.  This Sunday marks the spring opening of the gardens for all to see.

The Steinhardt gardens is a 58-acre rolling estate with extensive collections of Japanese maples, conifers, cypripediums, camellias, dahlias, alpines, ferns, rare woodland plants. Unique bridges (including a rope and a moss bridge), “stick house,” secret paths, Japanese Maple Garden, yellow garden, cutting garden, orchards, perennial garden, vegetable garden, ornamental grass garden, experimental garden as well as exotic animals such as Camels, Zebras, Flamingos, Waterfowl, Gazelles, and many other species.

Several members from the Stamford Photography Club have made the trip down to Bedford, NY to capture images of this wonderful garden over the years.  You should make time to visit too.

Planning to go:

  • The gardens are open to the public from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
  • Admission is $10
  • There is a lot to see across the 55 acre property
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the estate is on a rolling hillside
  • You can take advantage of all lenses in your bag here:  from macros of flowers, to wide angle scenics, and telephoto images of wildlife and graphic patterns in the paths and vegetation.

The Steinhardt Estate is at 433 Croton Lake Rd, Mt Kisco, NY 10549
