Libby says about the image:
“Most of the trees at Greenwich Point are craggy, sculptural and expressive, shaped over time by sea-winds from the Sound. I photograph them often, especially in snow or fog. Circling the Point after a recent snow, I drove by a group of trees which attracted me because of the contrasts. The damp bark was black/black. Fresh snow was white/white, pasted in random clumps on the Northeast side where the storm blew in from. The water behind them was gray – a horizontal line, contrasting with the trees’ verticality, adding a value statement halfway between black and white. Working the scene, I moved so that the two near tree trunks framed the far ones. The trees called to mind a Japanese print or a silent dance and appealed to my love of simplicity.”
