Our next competition of the season is this Wednesday, December 4, 2013.

Digital submissions for this competition are due by the end of the day Monday, December 2, 2013. You can submit your entries to DHFore@hotmail.com.

You can expect a confirmation of receipt of images from David by the end of the day Tuesday, December 3. If you do not see any confirmation email, please reach out to me immediately so we can fix the issue.

For digital image submission guidelines please reference our website’s Rules and Guidelines page, under sections V – DIGITAL IMAGES and VI – DIGITAL FILE SPECIFICATIONS.

The assigned subject for December is Solitude.

Print submissions are accepted until 7:15 pm the evening of the competition. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30pm.

Phil Nelson

Phil Nelson has a background in graphic design, film production and computer technology. Nelson worked at Apple Inc for ten years and helped drive the desktop publishing revolution in the late eighties. After Apple, Phil spent seven years with Adobe Systems managing major corporate clients in the advertising, publishing, and entertainment industries. Phil is also a
specialist in color management. As a Color Expert for X-Rite, he has consulted with numerous clients like Canon, Bowes and HP, and he has delivered hundreds of seminars on color management across North America and Europe. In 2007 he authored The Photographers Guide to Color Management for Amherst Publishing.

Phil specializes in landscape and architectural photography. He creates beautiful photographic landscape studies that are equally suited for fine art display and commercial use. His images are expansive, but his attention to detail creates a quiet mood that draws the viewer in. His work has appeared in numerous publications and advertisements and his prints hang on the walls of many businesses and private collectors in Fairfield County. His large format prints can be viewed and are for sale in the cafe at Good Food, Good Things in Darien, and much of his portfolio is online at

Phil is a returning judge to our Club

Anne von Stuelpnagel

Anne von Stuelpnagel is Director of Exhibitions at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut. In this position which she has held since 1995 she is responsible for the design of the Museum’s 12-14 exhibitions per year along with the accompanying exhibit graphics, as well as the majority of printed materials, such as invitations, brochures and catalogs. Anne has worked at the Bruce Museum since 1980 in various positions in the exhibition department, gaining increasing responsibilities for shows which span art, history, anthropology and science. Anne also initiated, planned and carried out the Museum’s two annual, juried outdoor arts and crafts festivals and now oversees their execution.

Anne received her BFA from the Blocherer School of Fine and Applied Arts in Munich, Germany with a Major in painting and Minor in interior design.

Michael Schley

Michael graduated from Darien high school with an award honoring excellence in photography. After working as a photographer’s assistant and darkroom printer for two years, he studied at The New England School of Photography in Boston where he majored in Black and White.

On more than one occasion Michael has driven across the United States to photograph landscapes, mostly in the west.  He also has made many trips to European cities including a six month stay in Prague, which resulted in a self-published book titled ‘The Heart of Prague’. Michael’s recent work focuses on the outer reaches of Cape Cod.

Michael has remain passionate about his work for over 20 years and he continues to search for meaningful images. His personal work is shot exclusively on film, typically with a 4×5 view camera, and he uses traditional darkroom methods for making prints.  Michael lives in Stamford.
