David Henkel earns perfect score for “At the End of the River Styx Awaits the Boatman”

Club member David Henkel’s image At the End of the River Styx Awaits the Boatman earned a perfect score of 27 from our three judges for September’s competition.  David’s image was submitted into the Digital Projected Image Class Salon Open Subject category.

David says about the image:

“This image was taken in May 2013 in Milford, CT, on one of the few days where dense fog shrouded the Connecticut shoreline.  I had seen images of the old piers in Milford online, and I took the opportunity to call in late for work and head on up to capture my own compositions in the great weather conditions that morning.  That wonderful fog obscured the water’s horizon line, while allowing the pilings of the old piers to be wrapped in a ghostly mist.  A long exposure assured that the water would blend away to nothingness, leaving a soft rendering of the old pier.

I didn’t like the seagull at the end of the pier at first…tried to shoo it away with some rocks, but it was steadfast in it’s resolve to stay there.  It doesn’t bother me too much in the final rendering of the image.”
