BARRY GUTHERTZ

He has had solo exhibitions in NYC, upstate NY and throughout Fairfield County, CT, and has participated in numerous group shows,   winning  1st Place in B&W photography  in the The New Canaan Society for the Arts   2009  Photo Exhibition.  More of his work can be seen at: www:barryguthertz.com.

“My recent images of natural objects and landscapes serve to capture the myriad of forms, shapes and patterns I find around me. What I love about photographing nature is the complexity of bringing to life the variety of textures that I find in the natural world. Subjects such as:—gangly roots, water and wind worn stone, knotty bark, crystalized ice, reflective water, and dried mud  explore the transformative process of nature’s growth cycles.   It’s a challenge to visually create something that we usually take for granted and to bring out its essence whether it’s sand, running water, or the velvety surface of a leaf on a flower.”

and please welcome our new judge:

PHYLLIS SINRICH

In 2001 Phyllis turned a passion for photography—which had been a hobby since childhood—into her “third life”.  She started professionally in the world of fashion, and after raising two children, launched a 25-year career as a public relations consultant. She says on her website:  “As a child I dreamed of becoming an archeologist. I still love digging around old ruins and delight at each unique, centuries-old discovery…. Finding old objects evoke a profound sense of closeness with the ancient people who created them.  Photography helps me fulfill that same joy of spontaneous discovery. My camera will “seize the moment,” so I can metaphorically “dig” anywhere in the world. Inspired by the expressionist vision, I look for subjects that capture the power of brilliant color, form and texture.” Phyllis has degrees in design from the Fashion Institute of Technology and in marketing from UConn.  She has also studied at the International Center of Photography and the Silvermine Guild.  For more information, go to her website: www.phyllissinrichphotography.com
