Hello everyone,

This is a reminder that our next competition of the season is this coming Wednesday, January 16, 2013.

****Due to the events of Tropical Storm Sandy and the subsequent nor’easter that hit the East coast we moved our January competition to January 16 to accommodate a missed competition in November.  We are caught up at this point and will resume our normal competition schedule starting in February.****

Digital submissions for this competition are due by the end of the day Monday, January 14, 2013. You can submit your entries to DHFore@hotmail.com.

You can expect a confirmation of receipt of images from me by the end of the day Tuesday, January 15. If you do not see any confirmation email, please reach out to me so we can fix the issue.

For digital image submission guidelines please reference our website’s Rules and Guidelines page, under sections V – DIGITAL IMAGES and VI – DIGITAL FILE SPECIFICATIONS.

The assigned subject for January is The Blues.

Make Up Submissions

You may enter ONE open subject digital image this month to be used as a make up for November or December’s missed competitions. No assigned subject make-ups are available this season. Make-up submissions receive a score, but there will be no critiques for these submissions.

When you submit an image for make-up, please use the following naming convention:

Year_Current Month_OS_Class_MU_Title_Maker.jpg

For instance. If I were to submit a make-up image with the title of “New York,” my file would be named 13_01_OS_S_MU_New York_DHenkel.jpg

You can view your current competition submissions by visiting the 2012-2013 Cumulative Scores section on our website.

Print submissions are accepted until 7:15 pm the evening of the competition. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30pm.

Our Judges for this evening’s competition are:

Phil Nelson

After speaking at our October meeting, Phil Nelson returns as a judge!  Phil creates beautiful photographic landscape studies that are equally suited for fine art display and commercial use. Phil has an eye for unique environments that are both visually and emotionally pleasing. His images are expansive, but his attention to detail creates a quiet mood that draws the viewer in. His expert knowledge of color, composition, and natural light combine to create stunning clarity. Phil applies this same sensitivity when working with architecture and portraiture to capture the atmosphere and character of his subject.  Phil is a professional photographer based in Stamford.  You can view Phil’s website at http://www.philnelsonimaging.com/

Anne von Stuelpnagel

Anne is Director of Exhibitions at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut.
