Make Up Submissions

You may enter ONE open subject digital image this month to be used as a make up for December or January’s missed competitions. No assigned subject make-ups are available this season. Make-up submissions receive a score, but there will be no critiques for these submissions.

When you submit an image for make-up, please use the following naming convention:

Year_Current Month_OS_Class_MU_Title_Maker.jpg

For instance. If I were to submit a make-up image with the title of “New York,” my file would be named 13_02_OS_S_MU_New York_DHenkel.jpg

You can view your current competition submissions by visiting the 2012-2013 Cumulative Scores section on our website.

Print submissions are accepted until 7:15 pm the evening of the competition. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30pm.

Our judges for this competition are:

 *******Bernie Mindich

Bernie is a multimedia artist living and working in Goldens Bridge, NY.
To quote from his website:  “I began my artistic career in the 1970s as a painter and sculptor. Since the mid 1980s, photography has been my dominant form of expression. Working almost exclusively in color, my imagery has evolved in extended thematic series, sometimes documentary in nature and frequently in an abstract or semi-abstract mode, with a painterly style.
“My initial passion for photography evolved from my early abstract wire mesh and acrylic sculptures, which incorporated projected light and theatrical pedestals and backdrops. The nature of the sculpture prompted me to explore photography to capture the always-changing details of color shadows cast as part of the sculptural presentation. This resulted in a mysterious and sensual photographic series entitled Private Screenings, first exhibited in 1987.”
Bernie has continued creating numerous other bodies of work and recently published two photography books.  See his website for more details at:  www.berniemindich.com

Bernie is a returning judge for our Club

*******Terry Spring

Terry lives in New Canaan.  Her artist’s statement follows:
“I became interested in photography about 10 years ago. My background was in the fine arts, drawing and printmaking in particular. I think the experience of learning photo lithography at the Silvermine Guild Art School influenced me to begin using photography as an art medium. The dangerous chemicals and hours of work necessary to produce a photo lithograph convinced me to abandon this medium and use my camera more directly!
Since then I have combined collage and photography to produce prints using Photoshop and my computer as tools. I work with a small digital camera, snapping photos here and there, often based on a theme I have planned before beginning. My ‘dark room’ is my computer and I find I can achieve all the effects I need using Photoshop software. I try to stick to basics as much as possible. I find sophisticated filters and similar tools, sometimes complicate the image and remove immediacy and freshness from the photo.
I print my own work on commercial ink jet paper and find most Epson inks hold their color fairly well over the long term. Eventually I will switch to archival inks for printing, but for the moment I am happy with my printer and reluctant to change.”
She has entered her photo collage work in a number of local competitions and won several major awards.  Four of her photo collages were accepted into the last Art of The Northeast show at Silvermine Guild.

Terry is a returning judge for our Club

*******Sara Augenbraun

Although Sara is formally trained as an attorney (a vocation that she happily avoided practicing for many years now), she is a fine art photographer with over 30 years of experience. She is mainly self-taught, but has studied photography at the ICP in NYC and the Maine Photographic Workshops.   She is drawn to images that have few distracting details and a nostalgia/Americana feeling such as classic American cars and boats, county fairs, beach houses and the serenity of long summers in Cape Cod.  See samples of her work at  www.sarasaugenbraun.com

Sara will be judging at our Club for the first time this competition evening.
