The Stamford Photography Club’s 2017-2018 season started off with a bang, as three images in our September Photo Competition earned perfect scores of 27 from our three judges for the evening’s event.  The three images are highlighted below, along with a short description of the photograph by the maker:

Jail Break by Rosemarie Consunji – Black & White Print Class Salon Open Subject

Jail Break_RConsunjiThis image was taken in Peter and Paul Fortress in Saint Petersburg, Russia last May. Spring had arrived but the temperatures were still in the low 30s to low 50s, still too chilly for any “normal” person to strip down to their skivvies to sunbathe. But it must have been a rare occurrence for the sun to be out as there was a line of various characters leaning against the external wall of the prison in the complex soaking in some rays. It was far from an ideal location to sunbathe as there was barely a strip of beach separating them from the water. ~Rosemarie

Watching it Set by Van Ruttley – Color Print Class Salon Open Subject

Watching it Set_VRuttleyPhoto was taken in Cape Cod- Everyone else went running down to the beach to catch the sunset and I decided to hang back, behind the breakwater, to see what images I could find that were not the expected … let’s be honest- How many sunsets can you shoot  🙂  I saw this couple settle in on the rocks and the light was just perfect ! Voila’. ~Van

Sea Nettles by Grace Kaplan – Digital Image Assigned Subject (3 of a Kind)

Sea Nettles_GKaplanThis image of 3 Sea Nettles was taken at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California.  They have a body type called a Medusa or bell body with tentacles hanging from the bell.  The bell may grow up to a foot across and the tentacles can reach a length of 10 meters.
These creatures, which are a type of jellyfish, were surprisingly beautiful and mesmerizing in the way they moved.  I could have spent hours watching them.  There were dozens in the tank and I tried for a long time to get just 3 of them for this month’s “3 of a kind” competition, but I was not able to get just 3.  We went on to visit other exhibits, and then, prior to leaving the aquarium, I returned to the sea nettles, and was able to capture a photo of just 3! ~Grace

Congratulations Rosemarie, Van and Grace!  Your images were added to the Perfect Score Gallery.
