Our October Competition at The Stamford Photography Club saw three images receive a perfect score of 27 from the judges.  The three images are highlighted below, along with a short description of the photograph by the maker (Click the image to see it larger):

Moroccan Sky by Greg Presley – Digital Image Assigned Subject

MorrocanSky_GPresley.jpgImage is a composite of two images taken in the Sahara Desert (Morocco).  The Milky Way was captured at 3am in the morning (prime time for the Milky Way in Morocco).  I hiked about three-quarters of a mile into the desert.  The sky was full of stars and the Milky Way was there for the capturing – 16mm lens, 25 second exposure, 3200 ISO, focus set on infinity, and turn off noise reduction.  The foreground was taken just before sunrise.  My tripod did not move as I stayed in the desert beside my tripod to capture both images.  Staying alone in the Sahara is possible since there are no venomous creatures.  It was pitch black and really lonely but I managed the five hours without calling 911. ~Greg

Fog at St. Mary’s by Linda Brinckerhoff – Color Print Salon Class Make-Up

Fog-at-St-Marys_Linda-BrinckerhoffThe source image was taken at 9:45 on a very foggy, January morning.
I composited a texture layer in muted colors and the birds. ~Linda

The Grave Yard by Bill Gordon – Color Print Salon Class

The Grave Yard_Bill Gordon“The SS Point Reyes lies on a sandbar in the town of Inverness, CA which is in the Point Reyes National Seashore.  A fantastic stop for those touring wine country.  Miles of Northern Calif. beaches, cattle ranches and a heard of elk.  The boat was dragged to its current location as a fixer upper that was never finished.  It is often photographed and was actually saved by local photographers when a wetlands restoration project threatened its existence. When we were there it was blowing a cold 35 kts. off the ocean (other side of the peninsula).  I had to return two evenings to get interesting light.”
