Rules of Competition

One thing that makes SPC unique is that Assigned Subjects must be taken after the subjects are announced.  This encourages members to think creatively and to shoot new material and not to rely on past images. So anything you shoot after 2/18/2015 will be eligible for competition in the Assigned Subject Category.

A big thanks to all members who submitted ideas and to the Selection Team:

About the Process.

The Team solicited input from club members and received close to 100 new ideas submitted by 10 members.  After adding the 12 best ideas submitted last year that did not make it to the top 8 and eliminating those ideas that were similar to the previous 3 year’s Assigned Subjects the selection team had 100 ideas to narrow down to 8.  Each member of the selection team picked their favorites from the list and then met as a team to thin down the consolidated favorites list via various rounds of up and down votes.  The voting process was “blind” to the idea originator names.

They carefully considered each idea individually, and as a set, across a variety of factors:

  • Accessibility – accessible to all members, at all levels.
  • Variety – the subjects span the whole spectrum from concrete to abstract.
  • Inspiring and challenging, which is core to what we are as a Club.

Once again, thank you to Jean-Marc, Douglas, Bill, Steve, Dona and Van for vetting these ideas and coming up with a great list.
