2013-2014 Assigned Subjects

A small group of members gathered to recommend the assigned subjects for the next season. PCLFC is pleased to announce the final list for next season.

Assigned Subjects for 2013/2014 Season

Sept – Silhouettes
Oct – White on White
Nov – Smoke
Dec – Solitude
Jan – These Modern Times
Feb – Romance
Mar – Curves
Apr – This is Just Wrong!

Rules of Competition

One thing that makes PCLFC unique is that Assigned Subjects must be taken after the subjects are announced. This encourages members to think creatively and to shoot new material and not to rely on past images. So anything you shoot after Feb 13, 2013 will be eligible for competition in the Assigned Subject Category.

A big thanks to the Selection Gang:
Jean-Marc Barra
Linda Brinkerhoff
Mike Harris
Van Ruttley

The crack Selection Gang came up with the following tests/criteria for the Selection Process:
The Gang solicited input from club members and evaluated a list of 68 ideas submitted by 12 members. They carefully considered each idea across a variety of factors:

  • Accessibility – accessible to all members, at all levels.
  • Variety – the subjects span the whole spectrum from concrete to abstract, including examples in Defined Subject, Broad Theme, Defined Lighting and Defined Attribute.
  • Quickly understandable by members and judges.
  • Inspiring and challenging.

Other considerations:

Several members submitted ideas for subjects which revolved around post-processing. Examples: Photomosaic, Background Replacement, Imaginative Manipulation and Experimental. These ideas were excluded from consideration because they did not meet the accessibility requirement. However, the Gang has suggested holding a session that highlights member’s work in these areas.

Once again, thank you to Jean-Mark, Linda, Mike and Van for vetting these ideas and coming up with a great list.
