Harry Sandler Presenting on January 18th at PCLFC

PCLFC is pleased to announce that our January speaker is Harry Sandler.  Harry Started out as a stage hand, rock groupie and all around memeber of the "crew" for a number of rock bands.  He progressed to promoting concerts and now runs his own production company.  During all of his concert production activity, he was and still remains a photographer.  Harry’s talk will include a short retrospective of his concert photographs.  Then he’ll show us some of his images and how they were post-processed via iPhone and iPad software  This will be an extension of our previous speaker, Dan Burkholder, who gave us an overview of the myriad of apps available.  Unlike Dan, Harry will spend time showing you how he approaches and processes a few images.  We are very excited that Harry will be presenting.  I hope you can join us.

When:  January 18, 2012
Where:  Stamford Government Center, 2nd Floor (in the Senior Center), 888 Washington Blvd, Stamford, CT
Time:  7:30 pm

About Harry Sandler

My passion for photography started at age  8 when my father gave me an early model of the Polaroid Camera.  I was instantly intoxicated watching images appear while peeling the print from the back of the camera.  My belief is that this early Polaroid set my photographic and artistic tone, as I was always attracted to that alternative expressionist look at life through the lens of a camera.  The tendency for me is to work in many different photographic mediums on many different platforms.  My iPhone images are a result of years of experience and endless hours behind the lens, including time spent working with various alternative processes like Platinum, Gum and Gold over Platinum printing.

The iPhone is eerily reminiscent of that first Polaroid — a virtual camera and darkroom in your pocket.  Only recently, with the advent of iPhone applications, one can alter the image to suit a more personal vision.  It also allows me to push the rules and add my own touch to each and every image — right there on the spot.  Additionally, I enjoy the social network aspect and the ability to post the images instantly on various platforms on the world-wide-web.

I spent most of my adult working life in entertainment away from the camera, serving in various roles over the years such as Film and Video Producer and Tour Management.  In this I have worked with some of entertainment’s most elite acts, like Barbara Striesand, John Mellancamp, Eagles, Billy Joel, Jewel, Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Nicks.

Since semi-retirement in 2008 all of my time is spent traveling and capturing images in remote locations such as Australia, Ireland, Scotland, England, and Iceland, not to mention many of the National Parks located in the continental United States.  in late 2011 there is a trip to Antarctica in the planning stages.

My work these days is across many formats and platforms from iPhone/iPad up to medium format high-resolution traditional digital cameras.

Richard Ventre

Dick, a Norwalk resident, is a Scenic Artist in the theater, and motion pictures.  He has been a charge man Scenic Artist on more than 50 movies including the Emmy Award winning Death of a Salesman, and the Academy Award winning Sleepy Hollow.  He currently paints for the Metropolitan Opera.

Mr. Ventre’s work is a pastiche of the photographic, theatrical, digital, and painterly disciplines honed by years of experience in each.

Beginning in 2006 and working with the model Sara Duquette, a unique style of photo-montage has evolved that crisscrosses and melds subject with background, the painted and the unpainted, with the real image and the enhanced image.  He is now working with several other models whose cr4eative contributions are taking shape in a number of individual and ensemble series.

Please welcome Dick as a returning judge with us.
